The Dive Buddy (dB) Endeavor is a blog about using technology to improve our understanding of the ocean and create solutions for safety, sustainability, and observation. 

Currently, we are working on a product known as the dB Artemis, a dive flag drone that autonomously tracks and follows scuba divers from the surface. This solution will eliminate the need for tow-lines to dive buoys, giving scuba divers freedom to focus on research or recreational activities unhindered. 

We plan to use this technology to generate relatively low-cost methods of dive mapping and diver safety in low visibility or hazardous conditions. This will have benefits for ocean researchers, dive tour companies, and adventuresome spearfishing or free-diving individuals. The goal is having as much data available below the waves as we have above them. 

On a broader level, this technology has potential to raise awareness of the impacts that human activity can have on our ocean. It will enable crowd-sourcing to more efficiently track the health of coral reefs. Or allow monitoring of overfishing in populated coastal regions. Or survey areas with harmful algae blooms. Or help quantify the detrimental impacts of plastic pollution, both offshore and in shallow regions. Many of these massive challenges are on a global scale and require individuals, organizations, and governments to cooperate, first by fully understanding the problem and then by providing appropriate solutions that are closely monitored. 

The Dive Buddy Endeavor sees technology and innovation as vital tools for this movement. We strive to use creativity, transparency, and technical know-how to safeguard our oceans, their ecosystems, and the many who depend daily on ocean resources.
